COCAWEU Childhood Care and EducationEarly childhood is defined as the period from birth to eight years old. A time of remarkable brain growth, these years lay the foundation for subsequent learning and development. Increasingly common, early childhood care plays an important role in children’s development and provides a valuable support to families with young children. It is therefore important to understand the impact of these services and to ensure their quality and accessibility.However, only 23.4% of children aged 3-5 years have access to early childhood care and development(ECCD) services. The majority of ECCD centers are in urban areas, privately owned and lack basic learning facilities and teachingstaff. Uganda put an ECCD policy in place only in 2014 and the
government budget for ECCD is very low.

Caregivers have low levels of knowledge and skills, such as on positive discipline and good nutrition we therefore desire to inspire our future generation by intervening early enough such that we mold young minds to ensure their future success. COCAWEU develops love of learning, social skills, and respect fordiversity. Today’s young children are tomorrow’s citizens. Our investment in them is an investment in the future of our society.

Child care is another major form of early childhood investment for young children. Child care takes many forms, from in-home care with a neighbor or relative, to professional in-home care to center-based care. Child care is a critical mechanism for early learning and family work support. Some child care programs also provide structured education to help support a child’s early cognitive and socio-emotional development. These programs, often referred to as early childhood education, can benefit children of all ages.
boys-learning-in-an-ECCD-centre-700x465COCAWEU believes that Every child deserves access to high quality, stimulating, developmentally appropriate early childhood care and education. We believe that early intervention promotes the healthy growth and development not just of individual children, but of entire communities. High quality child care can have a positive influence on children’s development and school readiness by providing valuable educational and social experiences. Cocaweu members together with volunteers provide this program to the community children where we cover all aspects of child development including physical, emotional, social, language and cognitive development.
Unfortunately, low and lower middle-income countries like Uganda tend to invest little in expanding and scaling up affordable ECCE programs for the poorest and most vulnerable children, who ultimately are the ones who can benefit the most from quality ECCE.

COCAWEU early childcare and educationCOCAWEU Early Childhood Care and Education program provides early childhood care and education for children of pre-school age. In general, children are eligible for this program if they are 2 months old and less up to 8 years. The upper age limit can be extended in some cases. There is strong evidence that early childhood care and education (ECCE) is one of the best investments a community can make to prepare children for learning in school and for prospering later in life. Children who benefit from early childhood education programs are better prepared for primary school and will reach better education outcomes. Quality ECCE also helps to reduce repetition and drop-out rates, improves school readiness, and increases school achievement.
